White Folks For Mitt?

Slate has an asinine article making the claim, in part, that "most white folks vote for Mitt out of racial ties" and only those that don't are doing so out of principle.
A recent  ABC/Washington Post poll found Romney leading Obama 65-32 among white men and 53-44 among white women, giving him a 59 percent share of the white vote overall—"a new high," and closing in on that 60 percent target.
The underlying assumption behind this whole article, and behind the snippet above, is that the roughly 60% of white folks are voting for Romney and are voting on the basis of race, whereas the 40% who aren't are voting on principle.

This is essentially like saying "If you don't vote the way I vote, you're voting like an ignorant hill-billy, period.  Only people who vote as I do are voting intelligently, on well reasoned principles, and not in a unconscionable manner."

At the very least, let's be consistent and say that a certain percentage of both sides (or all three, 1)Barack, 2) Mitt, 3) Neither) can come to this decision ON PRINCIPLE, having nothing to do with the race or gender etc. of the candidate.

Personally, I don't like either of them.  They both want the power to arrest, detain, or kill me on a whim, and that's a flagrant violation of the constitution.  In fact, I'm tempted myself to say that anyone voting for either of these guys is at the very least missing the forest for the few trees that have been selected for national discussion.

But more over, MANY of the folks I know who both happen to be white and happen to be voting Mitt are doing so not over color issues but over what they view (rightfully so) as attacks on their life and liberty by the President: Issues like his executive orders, the NDAA (not that I believe Romney will cease the former or opposed the latter, but hes "not guilty yet" and that's enough reason for them to get rid of the fellow who is.)  Over the HHS Mandate which forces people to violate their consciences, and treat their "business selves" as totally separate entities from their "private, at-church-on-Sundays self).  THAT is unconscionable (again, Barack made this the law through execution, and while Mitt did it at the state level, he's not done it on the national level, and again, that's enough for some.

Not for me, but for some.  It has LITTLE to do with race, at least on a lot of the "White side" that I know of.

Certainly, however, some have made the case that Obama Supporters, among minorities, ARE voting on the basis primarily of race (or possibly worse, "Charisma"), and not the issues. For example, this came out 4 years ago:

There are other videos, if you want to look not too deeply into the annals of YouTube, but honestly, I don't have a horse in that race either way.

Again, I don't like either.  But all that being said:
